South of Alola, in the open sea, there is a sea current that connects Kanto with these islands. The current is so fast that only a few Pokemon can utilize it, among of which is the Alolan Mantine. It has developed electric typing in order to neutralize the friction that the sea current produces, alowing them to swim freely in and out of them. Alolan Mantines are amongst the fastest swimers of the Pokemon world. The electricity that flows within its body feeds energy onto its propeller-like tail, allowing it to achieve such velocity that it can outspeed yachts and large cruisers. It can also discharge its electricity from its antennae, but by doing so its energy reserves can run out. To recharge, they swallow large quantities of water through its gills, similar to an hydraulic power plant.
