Beartic's name is from bear, beard and arctic. The word arctic is from Greek arktos, literally meaning bear.
The reason cold northern regions are called the arctic is because ships used to use the Ursa Major and Minor constellation to navigate its waters.
Much much later, people found out there actually were arctic bears, polar bears.
Also Beartic's beard is really frozen snot, like from Cubchoo. If you look close you can clearly see the "beard" comes from ice dripping out of its nose.
