>>35210397Well to be fair, machinery has always been part of Digimon designs. But yeah, there have definitely been more knight- and fanservice-style Digimon as of late, though Digimon's target audience is a little older than Pokemon's.
I also think Digimon looking more monstrous than Pokemon do comes down to design philosophy. Pokemon are part of the human world, and anyone can catch and train them, and therefore have to look the part. They can't go too out of their way. The biggest exception is the Ultra Beasts, but it's deliberate for them.
With Digimon, they live in a world connected but separate from the human world, and they can look as monstrous or fucked up as they like, and it's okay because they're confined to their space. But then they end up in the real world, and all hell breaks loose.
