>>43250367Game Freak has commented before that it was a conscious decision to minimize the over-world changes between GB to GBA because they didn't want to alienate fans and have them feel like they were playing a different game. They were already worried about the backlash they were receiving over the incompatibility of the newer games, they didn't want to take any risks, and eventually it just became their style with 2D games, but it too slowly evolved with each 2D installment.
It's not a great excuse, but at least they gave a reason and the style they went with doesn't look bad at all. It's lazier compared to other games, but still better than others. It's average yet showed an improvement from the previous games, even if not a huge leap, and it wasn't a game they were capable of making on the GB.
SWSH has neither of those legs to prop it up. It looks like a game that could have come out 2 generations ago without any reason given why it doesn't look substantially any better than the entry right before it. It's not a style and it's not just average, but it's bad compared to it's equal franchises on the Switch. Especially jumping from hand-held to an actual console. Compare RSE to Colosseum and that's the upgrade we should have gotten from USUM to SWSH.
