Pokémon Battles are a standardized way for Pokémon to fight. They don't result in death, just Fainting, which simply means they can't battle but can still do other stuff. So, in an actual fight to the death like this, they can fight in a way they normally wouldn't. This is most shown with Legendary/Mythical Pokémon, who often hold back their true power.

The weaker Pokémon can just ignore the fight entirely or, more likely, they can help using Moves like Helping Hand. They will be protected and kept safe by the stronger Pokémon. The same for any Pokémon that needs to take a break to heal up.

In that thread there were lots of good ideas. I also shared my own idea for Pokémon Contests in that thread.

There general idea is:

Pokémon have Base Stats for Contests and Contest typing.
I made up a stat called "Attention" or "ATN" for short to be the Contest version of HP.
You have multiple Pokémon, can switch and target other Pokémon.
These ideas I had are for if there was a hypothetical Pokémon Showdown like simulator for Contests.

I would like Pokémon Contests to have a competitive scene and be as in-depth as battles already are. It would make more Pokémon viable but in a way that makes sense for them. Imagine the Baby Pokémon being OP in Cute Contests meaning they would likely go in Cute Ubers. Maybe some even being banned from Cute Ubers to reside in "Cute Anything Goes" because of their high "Base Cute" stat which sounds hilarious. Milotic could have a perfect 255 Base Beautiful stat and Arceus could have a perfect Base Attention stat of 255 because of course they would.
