The pokedex is literally the least problem with the new games. Pokemon has needed a hard reboot since the 3DS. It needs to decide if it's a handheld adventure, a Yokai watch clone or a serious JRPG. It tries to be all of those things then appeal to the mobile phone market. It fails at everything it does and continues to build on mistakes and gimmicks. Sword/Shield does nothing new and fixes none of the core problems. If you want an example of a monster catching franchise doing well then look at Digimon. Way smaller budget pulling off way better games that people are being pulled into not away from with Pokemon. Pokemon loses 10 million sales a generation on the mainline games. 10 fucking million sales is more than most franchises sell in their entire life span. Clearly bitching about pokedex size is not a relevant issue here. The only generation not to lose sales was the one following Pokemon Go.
