The only time Pokemon are turned into a "digital form" is for a short time when they're being transferred through the PC or being traded.

No one in the franchise has ever referred to a Pokemon as a person. According to TPC guidelines for 3rd parties the Pokemon replace the animals of that world and you can tell because of how they portray the Pokemon in the franchise. In short, you need to get a grip with reality.

You make a good point. However, I do feel that there's a big divide in how they approached pokemon after the pokemon boom happened. Suddenly they had to worry about being kid friendly to not deter investors and start churning out the merch, games and cards on a regular basis.

What comes to my mind is this old training manual for investors or new workers.. it lists restrictions on how pokemon can be showed in products and anime.

Yes, Pokemon is short for Pocket Monsters, but the creatures are never called that, just "Pokemon". In fact that's one of the corporate mandates for all official Pokemon products; they can never be referred to as "monsters" or "animals", they can only be called "creatures".

"Creatures" more accurately describes them anyway since "monster" has a negative connotation, but they're not just animals either.
