Pokemon even at that point had been marketed as a squeaky clean cutesy kodomo anime experience, so even telling basic folklore would be jarring to people using highly marketable Pokemon Creatures (borderline baby cartoon characters) instead of crummy animals. You already saw these people coping with headcanons to soften things when the same writer’s nature documentary-tier dex entries made it into SM/USUM.
