Watch the movies. The movies are generally all decent, some of them really good, and there's 17 of them, so that's a nice chunk of time for you.
As for the anime, well after the Original series, it started getting a lot of filler to pad out Generations. The second half of the Diamond/Pearl Era is good, and Kalos is alright too, but aside from that, no, don't watch the anime.
