I think almost all of them. Some play competitive until today, are active posters on Smogon, etc. Others do the normal playthrough of random versions every three months or so for shits and giggles

Everybody. I used to play competitive with the local official Pokémon League and one of my victories got into a Nintendo Magazine. Therefore, even people who I don't even know are aware of my hobby.

Nope. Wasn't even when I was in middle school and everybody wanted to play adults. Now that people have actually grown up they're playing it and it's pretty normal.
