There's routes that are all the most barebones, cynical, reductive version of what a Pokemon route is. Between them, gigantic fields of Pokemon spawns that require zero effort to navigate and supplement your roster by letting you catch dozens of new species virtually anytime you want without any real design to when they become available. (It worked in PLA, it does not and never will work in a mainline game where raising a Pokemon is more of a commitment and you're not meant to switch out constantly.) And between both of those, towns that are comfortable just being a Pokemon Center, a Gym, and a few NPCs standing around. The content to keep playing for after you beat the story is a few guided demos of raids, raids themselves, one repeatable tournament that decides by RNG which notable trainers you're allowed to rematch, pokedex completion (just going back to old areas and catching the fucktillion spawns in each of them), and the pokemon tower.
Oh, and it runs poorly, the Pokemon sliding and bouncing independent of the animation they're in looks uncanny and unappealing, and the environments look so bad it's jarring.
