If I'm evolving my Haunter, it's because I want it on MY team and to fill MY dex, not hand it over to some shady jackass who can easily take it and run.
What's physically stopping people from being irrationally, self-destructively, capital-E Evil and refusing to trade my Gengar back? How do I know they won't betray me for the joy of Evil? How can I be 100% certain of their future actions? I don't get it. They have the ability to betray me, so I won't take that chance. How could anyone take that chance? It's downright foolish to think your trust won't be abused every time. Trust is a lie.

How do I know they weren't pretending to be my friend just to steal my Gengar? Remember, the world is full of Evil people, who devote their lives to causing pain because they can. They'll do anything.
