We had sort of a pattern going, with the big point of contention being whether or not to count megas.
But even with Alolan forms, this gen is pretty disappointing.
That said, right now we've basically got a single outlier, not really a trend.

Okay. You have to realize that you're making a prediction based on nothing.

We have always alternated between big and small gens. Less than 90 this gen would be a gigantic outlier and it's foolish to think that would happen without reason.

If you take megas into account, the general trend had actually been an increase, not a decrease.

They've been holding to a "big gen/small gen" pattern 6 gens in a row. The only minor divergence was megas getting thrown into the mix last gen.

Of course, they could break the pattern. But I'm sure you've seen the many anime threads in the last day or two?

They're revealing a lot of stuff, but if the pattern holds than this gen should have a lot more new pokemon than last gen, so we might avoid the whole "everything was revealed early" thing this time.

If new pokemon+Alola forms+new megas adds up to around 150 this gen will be pretty swell.
