Smogon is a shittier website created by faggots, literal faggots, who got mad that actual good players would not only beat them but also bully them.
They also got tired of the jocks bullying them altogether and so the leaders got together, most of them in their late teens, to create a website that didn't kick off at all until some teens discovered its potential and a bisexual asian who was dating a tranny named 'Katie' coded a sprite-driven basic fighting simulator for Pokemon.
These nerds who had no where to go but gathering had decided to assist in helping the Nerd create more refined sprites and a battling system that drew in people. Word got out over campus and the next thing you know Pokemon was popular again by the 5th gen. This is when Showdown started gaining speed. Teens and underagers came to use the site and started memeing. Soon after there was a push overseas as Showdown became a 4chan meme. /vp/ helped propogate then reddit. Next thing you know lots of people were joining and the old fucks who first started it thought they could fit it.
Soon finding out young women who used the sites or pretty boys didn't give a fuck about their fetishes or the hardwork they put in. Zarel who is semi-somewhat cute at the time started drama with Katie and this brought more people in to see the freakshow. It was covered up. Mods and Globals and shit were made. More drama was generated, /vp/ now had Showderp. Making fun of Showdown and appealing to memesters.
Now old men who made the site tried to hit on young women who used them to gain status in a semi-popular (online only) website and these rejects found out that their bragging about tits being flashed made it to the teens who wanted the young girls that got mad and turned it around on them to expose the pedophiles.
Now it's just a giant jerk fest and split between the new devs who have as much knowledge if not more than the old devs..
