If I put the music on now and think about that moment I still get chills. Fighting my old character blew my mind. Fighting Red was something that nobody even thought of as a possibility back then. Keeping that final battle a secret made it one of the best moments in gaming history. Perfect game design.
The original Champion Lance/Red theme is the best battle theme in the series. The HG/SS remake version sucks in comparison. The 8-bit music made it sound so much more intense, especially the first 10 seconds.
