"VALUES" are a way of describing how light or dark something is. A very important part of VISUAL CLARITY of any artwork is having proper values! This is art 101, anyone who takes art classes or learns online almost immediately learns about this.
Having improper values makes ANY picture you're looking at incredibly hard to read, and is very noticeable even to the most untrained eye! (Even if they don't want to admit it, looking at you, gamefreak shills)
A common way to tell if you have good values is to convert an image into black and white, and then to squint at it from a distance! If the image is still clear and visible, you have good, readable values!
