I've frankly been curious about the whole type insignia thing for a while. You're correct about the anime featuring the TCG icons, they were front and center in the first season opening in Japan:

The Gen 7 video games' Z-crystals had explicitly distinct (yet partly similar) insignia for each and every typing in them, but afaik those designs don't return in gen 8 in any context.
I've always been very fond of the TCG Psychic symbol, myself.
