Five is my personal favorite. It felt like the last time GF really tried to push the formula forward, rather than relying on gimmicks. The animated sprites were awesome and the music was some of the best in the series.
Seven and eight are pretty interchangeable for the worst for me. Seven was just kind of boring and marked the point for me when the shark was officially jumped. Eight leaves a bad taste in my mouth for countless reasons. I refuse to purchase the DLC.
The rest of the generations are pretty equal, with six being a little worse than the others and two being the black sheep.
