Marshtomp and Swampert being Dorooda and Clayboss (it's a ku, not a gu) has me think they're more or less the same with the swampy theme, just that they weren't given their proper typing yet.
Also minor, but worth noting:

Also some of these base stats are even worse than in the final game. Imagine Johto 0.5:
