RNG abuse makes it so anyone's able to get a battle ready team in less than a few hours. Catch a 6IV Ditto with that and hatch a perfect mon, only worrying about egg moves, or catch a mon outright with everything you want if that's not important.
In Platinum there's not really a good way to go about investment afterwards, admittedly if I remember right, but HGSS makes it a lot simpler and even has repurchasable PP Ups through Pokeathlon. Gen IV's honestly one of the few gens where getting the right mon is little issue, even V has a lot of missable things like HAs and VI onwards sacrifices manipulating what you want for raw better odds.
