Things changed a lot in Gen 4 with Stealth Rock and the new offensive moves. Gen 5 was by far the one I played the most and I've seen some incredible, actually breathtaking high-level games, but I still like Gen 3 more because things were simpler and had some kind of "purity" that has been lost as the game got more and more professional, Smogon grew and etc.
I played only one championship of Gen 6 when Genesect was still allowed and won, then with this 100% win ratio on the generation I never played competitive again. So my opinion is Gen 3 out of nostalgia.
