There's a couple descriptors for girls in the Japanese language that all just get translated to tomboy but all have different meanings. Even Misty's "Tomboyish Mermaid" is actually the word おてんば (otenba) which is a borrowed Dutch word meaning untamed or indomitable. Zoey is definitely more the borrowed "Boyish" from English.
