When i say "control the narrative", i want to bring up the story of /pol/ and it's right wing nature, the right-wing dominant opinions on /pol/ aren't natural in the slightest it's purely artificial from the very beginning when GrapeApe was placed as head mod of 4chan, he banned a very good number of leftist opinions and that's how he created that narrative.
But when a board like /qa/ existed, people who revolted against the retarded policies of the staff and were very persistent about it, mods had to ensure that /qa/ remained a hidden board and keep their shitposting at bay.
You're average /qa/ user in 2020-2021 was probably the most banned user of 4chan just because they had fun shitposting with soijaks and didn't give in to the mods narrative.
