>>49554582True. The anime's importance can not be ignored.
If I had to pick the key people who made pocket monster so successful, it wouldn't be Tajiri, nor Masuda, nor Moyamoto. The key were:
>Shigeki Morimotofor coding Mew into the game, which made Japanese players take a special interest in the series well after its release window and making Nintendo directives consider a release on the west
>Takeshi Shudofor writing the first anime season and presenting to the rest of the world the most enchanting and mysterious version of the pokémon universe
That feeling of mystery and wonder of the first season was what made you feel there was something interesting in there worth exploring and engaging with. Like there is stuff no one really knows about and you could be the one who will unravel the secrets of this barely understood fantasy world. That worked well during pokémania and the pre internet era. Modern anime is more arcadey and cartoon-like, more gag based and takes itself less seriously. Sure, you can find it fun, but it is more clearly a corporate product for brand exposure than a story capable of inspiring feelings of wonder.
