Assuming that Jynx was 100% geared to an American market, which it clearly wasn’t, African-American oriented art/media self promotes their own skin tones as “blue” or “purple” it’s actually quite common in Black American art to have an analogue until recently were “black is beautiful” became more pervasive and art has become less abstracted to reflect that paradigm shift. Also it brings to mind frostbitten skin or eerie/dead/clamy skin
