The sports analogy is not a good one because there are many occupations centered around Pokemon which don't involve battling. The economy, culture, and daily life revolves around Pokemon.
The only instance where this wouldn't have applied is Team Plasma attempting to separate people off from Pokemon... which again... required Pokemon themselves to accomplish. Even had they succeeded, Pokemon would just be like animals are and would still be fucking everywhere unless you just stayed inside your house with no television.
There's no escape. These so called "normies" in the Pokeworld would be perceived as freaks in their society anyways.
