Current Standard is not only more expensive than non-rotating formats like Pioneer but also the most expensive AND the worst in terms of gameplay in years.
Single archetype (Black-Red Midrange) makes up over 45% of the meta right now. Various Black-x Midrange decks make up about 75% of the whole meta. Black and Red staples are being played in 50-60% of all decks.
WotC refuse to ban anything because of PR so staples cost up to $75 per card now.
Now they informed players they will not rotate the current Standard for another year and delay rotation for another year.
Also they won't release preconstructed decks for Standard this year to make it even more expensive.
