>>49116589You can tell that generation 6 was rushed or at least had to put his development into the 3D modeling which sucked time away from the game itself. It had a ton of potential. It was probably the last time I had a lot of fun playing a mainline game. They were toying with the nostalgia pandering, but it wasn't as overt. I think the real problem is it got screwed over by the success of Pokemon Go which sucked away all the attention. And then when it came to generation 7, they had this massive plan to make it into this huge immersive world, but ran into problems and it just sort of became a mess. Game freak blamed the hardware or time constraints or Nintendo themselves for those sorts of things, but they need to understand that they are the developers whose goal is to work around those problems. Maybe they shouldn't have tried to make a fully 3D Pokemon game on the 3DS. Maybe they should have focused on new experiences rather than trying to sell us on a story and characters.
I think the reason generation 5, and to a lesser extent generation 6, are so fondly remembered is because those generations understood that the fun of a Pokemon game is variety, it's exploration, it's the post game, it's finding new ways to play the game.. That completely vaporized in generation 7, and is a shadow of itself in generation 8.
