They all have multiple, more sharply contrasting horizontal lines on the torso that serve to break up the silhouette rather than just one that does an inadequate job, more detail on the legs, actual hands and fingers (except Eggs who doesn't have arms), multiple toes (except Nidoking, who has prominent knee-plates), eyes that aren't just empty black pits so that their expressions are more readable, and either horns or leaves on their heads so they aren't left with a weird baldy-headed look to them. Most of Scovilliain is just a smooth blob of green and it looks awful.
I don't have to go back to gen 1, either - Obstagoon, whilst less chonky than the aforementioned gen 1 designs, as is typical for more modern Pokemon fare, has almost all of these same features as well - floof arranged like biker leathers to break up the silhouette, detailed legs with proper hands and multi-toed feet, actual eyes, and coiffed head fur to keep it from looking bald.
Everyone constantly bitches about over-designing, but there IS such a thing as under-designing as well. Scovile isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it does a damn-side better job of being an appealing, readable design, and gameplay-wise has far more to offer as well, being a fast drought-setter with eruption.
