>Mega Evolutions are just glorified formes, guys!
They're Mega Evolutions. Not formes. This shouldn't even be argued.
"Evolution beyond evolution", "temporary evolution", call it whatever you want, but it's EVOLUTION.
It's not even about base stats or stupid, game-mechanical shit like that. Look at what's happening to some of them:
>Gengar
Described as a Shadow Pokemon, Mega Gengar has its body sinking to the ground, blurring the line between being a Pokemon and becoming a bonafide shadow.
>Kangaskhan
The mother "gives" the Mega Evolution to the baby, giving it the power to defend itself from danger. But the baby instead defends her mother.
>Charizard X
Its fire turns blue with increased heat; it's fire-breathing powers evolve.
>Charizard Y
Larger wingspan, mini-wings on its arms; it's mastery of flight evolves.
>Blaziken
Goes full-on muay thai; check out his stance and flaming arm bands
>Absol
It appears before humans warning them of disaster; its fur stands up and look like wings when it mega evolves, making it look almost like a guardian angel
>Mawile
Two giant fucking jaws
>Blastoise
HUGE fucking cannon, two extra cannons on its arms
>Alakazam
Looks older, thus wiser, and this is the guy with an IQ over 5000. More fucking spoons.
>Medicham
More indian.
I could go on and on, but the point is that
THEIR THEMES ARE STRENGTHENED WHEN THEY MEGA EVOLVE.
That's something that's always stayed true when it comes to Pokemon evolution, and Mega Evolution does this as well; it "upgrades" and strengthens the Pokemon's "theme".
Don't care if you disagree or draw straws trying to debunk this (maybe you will, for all I know, but probably not), it's how I viewed pokemon evolution, and it's those similar vibes I got with Mega Evolution too.
