But their purpose is similar, because it shows Black suddenly seeing White in a new light. They hadn't thought much of each other at this point and it really is just a business relationship. But White telling Black about her dream catches his attention, because up until now he's been the only character screaming about his own dream. Black's obsession with his goal had even made him act inconsiderate to people in the past (Cheren, Bianca, Prof Juniper). But meeting White who has her own goals yet manages to be a considerate person (paying for Black's debt wothout him asking) makes Black rethink his actions, while also making him respect her. That's why this is the first time he calls her "boss"
Nothing romantic yet, but to me the way Black seems to get reluctantly humbled is the first time he looks more complicated and interesting than just being Red but autistic.
