And just how much was changed in intent, exactly - when in the second film they're still making dropping moments like Misty reacting to someone kissing Ash?
It's all fairly loose stuff, yeah, and I see no reason for anyone to be upset both characters moved on - especially in Japan - but I'm not convinced it was all headcanon. The japanese version, that is.
