There is another 20+ year old franchise rehashing the same tired formula over and over and over again, with increasingly mediocre entries and increasingly mediocre gimmicks. What happened? Ratings and sales got so bad that the makers were forced to reconsider the formula, and create and create an entry that's actually fresh, but still captures the spirit of the original. Pic related. Wether you think it's good or not, at least it took the franchise in a new direction.
I hope that the same thing will happen to Pokémon, but the 1 year development cycles they're cranking out makes me a little skeptical. If it doesn't happen (and like the others have said), just let go and move on. Change is an inevitable part of life. Everything ends eventually.
