Let me tell you why Tierno is shit to those who seem to be in the dark about the whole situation.
For starters, there is no point of him being in the game.
>Why?
Because he adds nothing. If you removed him entirely then the game would change in no way what so ever.
I have a feeling that he exists because the talent show or dance contests were scripted in to the beta versions of X&Y, but were removed at a later date. This would at least give Tierno a reason to be in the game, as he doesn't care about battling but DOES care about dancing. As it is though, there is no dance studio, so his obsession with dancing comes out of no where and makes no fucking sense. It adds nothing to the game and is a constant nuisance.
On top of this, when you battle him he doesn't even use Pokémon who dance. Corphish, hell yeah.
Secondly, he is annoying.
You meet up with him and the first thing he does is give you a nickname. Apparently "Ben" is far too hard to remember for him, so he has to apply a stupid nickname to you. Unless you're autistic or from some obscure culture, giving someone a nickname before you care to learn their real name is the height of rude.
Lastly, his design is stupid. No one wants to hang around with a fat retard with one of the worst Pokémon ever printed on to his shirt. If they had kept it like the original games, having a RIVAL would have been enough - but no - we get a rival, a loli, a sperg and a fat retard.
>But Trevor and Shauna are pointless too!
50/50. Trevor represents a different "breed" oohoohoh of Pokémon player. Some kids really do care about catching/seeing them all instead of battling.
Shauna is around sort of as comic relief/kawaii love interest. Having Serena as both would have seemed unusual. Besides, she also takes the third starter, so there's sort of a trifecta of rivals instead of the old Genwun/two routine of "one Pokémon gets left on a table in a lab for its natural life."
