>>52165607Pokemon never really "died down" but if I really had to pick what the low point for the series was, it would have to be Gen 3. That's when the anime stopped being relevant in the west and Pokemon movies stopped getting theatrical releases (I think the last anime movie to get a wide theatrical release in the west was the 4th one with Celebi. The 5th movie with Latios and Latias I think got a very limited theatrical run and every anime movie released since has been direct to video)
Gen 4 gave the series a slight boost again with HG/SS.
Also, the series' renaissance was not gen 5, gen 5 are amongst the lowest selling main games, it was more like between gen 7 and gen 8, because that's when Pokemon Go became the highest grossing mobile game of all time and was a cultural phenomenon and it's also when Pokemon got its first theatrical release since the 5th movie with Detective Pikachu. Its also during this time Sword and Sheild ended up being the second best selling games in the franchise (much to the chagrine of /vp/)
