Some people learn possession and switching but it's not a "must-know" part of tulpamancy, you can go your whole life without getting into any of that if you're not comfortable with it. (Though in my experience it only strengthens your bond with them).

When schizophrenics hear voices, they're often malicious and tormenting to the point of insanity, while with tulpas their presence is comforting.
