I feel like a Slowpoke but it just hit me that his Alakazam is probably a reference to Mira, the character in Wayward Cave in DP with a Kadabra. I always wondered why he had one instead of like, a bug type or something. (Though it does also continue the submas trade evolutions theme too)
(Speaking of which... Imagine if Ingo's Gurdurr and Emmet's Boldore never got to evolve because Ingo went to Hisui right after BW2 and they're still the same 10 years later. I feel like this is an unexplored angst opportunity)
