May had complained, grumbling about her aching feet, while Max whined about just being tired period. Brock had simply smiled and shaken his head, well used to this sort of behavior from him by now.
But in the end, they had all agreed; they were tired anyway, and they could all use a good rest. So, with that, they had all set off, Ash in the lead, his friends trailing him, and Pikachu perched on his head.
Upon reaching the Center, Max, May, and Brock had promptly collapsed into a couple of the Center's beds. Ash, though he was quite fatigued as well (if his constant yawning was anything to go by,) nonetheless stayed at his team's side, watching over them and making sure they were OK.
After a few hours, Ash was told by the Center's Joy that his Pokemon were doing well, and would be ready to go by the next morning. Pikachu in particular was doing very well; at worst, he was just very tired from the day he had had.
As a result, Pikachu no longer needed to be monitored by machines, and had been able to walk out of the medical room and leap into Ash's arms. The boy had grinned and laughed happily…right before he let out another monstrous yawn. If the look on his face was any indication, Pikachu figured that it was only then that he realized how bone-tired he was.
Pikachu shook his head as he thought about it; Ash was a good person, and a devoted friend to boot, but darned if he wasn't too dense sometimes to realize his own limitations.
Thanking Nurse Joy, Ash had taken his friend, walked over to one of the beds, kicked off his shoes, tossed his cap off, and collapsed directly onto the mattress. Pikachu had jumped out of his arms to avoid being crushed; good thing, too, because Ash had fallen asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. Pikachu wasn't much better off, honestly; as soon as he'd climbed up onto the bed and crawled onto Ash's back, he was barely able to curl up before he too fell asleep.
