Ok, so, I'll probably finish Perish Song outside of these threads, I think based on my levels and where I'm at that I'm around 40% mark of the game, so I'll give my thoughts on what I've seen thus far.
Overall I like what I'm playing, the devs actually do have a strong grasp of Dark Souls and I think moreso the Metroid-inspired side of it. The nonlinearity, the exploration heavy gameplay with less focus on combat and more on 'finding good shit to demolish people with', the weird obscure story, it's all there and done legitimately excellently. Dark Souls is often said to be the master of that dread feeling you get when you're running low on supplies and surrounded by powerful monsters but want to keep exploring, this game emulates that as well as it possibly could be done for a Pokemon game.
Unfortunately this is a game I'd have a hard time recommending, simply due to, as I've bitched about, the lack of a speedup, the very 'cheap' looking aspect of the game, and of course if you're just not a fan of this kind of gameplay or storytelling you're going to find it probably boring. It's optimized well, the battles are pretty smooth and the maps aren't so big that speedup has turned me off completely, and the fact you don't - can't - grind means it's a lot more bearable than say, the lack of speedup in Xenoverse. But it's still a problem. I have some other minor complaints but those are going to be the biggest turn offs for anyone looking at this game.
So yeah, check this out if you're a fan of metroidvanias and such and think that kind of gameplay style would mesh well with Pokemon.
