Is it confirmed Z crystals and mega stones won't be returning? Or will they be post game the way megas were in gen 7? Just seems weird to introduce these things just drop them completely. More so megas considering they're literal form changes.

Z-moves are like Gems but 10x better. Attacking moves become one-time nukes with no drawbacks(no accuracy issues or recharge turns). Even using Explosion with the Normal Z-crystal doesn't kill the user. Its amazing.
