The problem with 'design appeal' is that it isn't the same for everyone. For example, I used to think this guy was one of the ugliest Pokemon designs ever. After awhile I started to grow on it and now I really like it. Then there's other designs that I liked at first and now think are ugly. The point is that our tastes are all different and change over time for the most part. Plus the games are catered towards kids of this time period, which is something a lot of people on here seem to forget.
