The starters are fine, but most of the new dex is weaker compared to gen 7. The characters are paper thin and are limited by the FIFA setting. The towns are window dressing with copy-paste interiors. The story is almost nonexistent. The wild area is a huge technical mess. The music is incredibly over-produced even by Pokemon standards. Last but not least, the shitty catch rate and long animations make just normal play a chore.
I don't mean to sound overly negative, because I still think it's an okay game. It's just definitely disappointing compared to both gen 7 and 9.
