>>32641297Machinedramon was a supposed to be a cold and artificial monster devoid of anything that makes the monsters worth caring for other than pure battling. He was the v-pet without any of the necessary tender love and care you put into them. The point was to give Analogman a monster that reflects who he is and how he treats the digital monsters.
On the other hand, digital monsters, even the cute ones, were originally supposed to be truly "monstrous" and vicious.
Overtly dark themes like cybernetic reanimation reviving a battle damaged monster, the implication that battles could have such serious effects on your monsters, and from a design perspective the use of jagged edges, harsh black shadows, defined musculature, popping veins, wrinkly skin, gnarly fangs, etc. Even Agumon looks pretty monstrous, in the original art.
Pocket monsters were always designed to be more soft and huggable even in the later stages of evolution. Some of them looked cool, some of them looked cute, the old art style had a slight edge over the newer one but they were always supposed to be pretty cuddly. So a Pokemon like Machinedramon wouldn't make sense.
