One of the lyrics from the OG theme is literally about finding pokemon under a girl's skirt, accompanied by pic related. There's also the banned swimsuit contest episode. It wasn't always a shounen.
Your most generic trash shounen barely have any female characters and Pokemon went above and beyond most shounen by having many important female characters in roles such as nurses, police officers, gym leaders and E4 members, trainers, breeders, etc. etc. You can't tell me pokemon was purely a shounen when it had multiple episodes in later seasons dedicated to feminine aspects of the game like contests and showcases. It had aspects of seinen, shounen, and shoujo before becoming a mixture of shounen and shoujo.
