I finished the story last night and was disappointed nothing really came out of the meteor and illumina pokemon part of the story other then being lore.
They had all the elements already there to create a pseudo boss stage where another Meteor could have been falling and you have to figure out using all the skills you've learned up to that point how to stop it.
The mechanics could have been much the same as the second last stage only there'd be panicing pokemon, dust plumes and shakey cam. You light up each illumina fluid fonts with orbs like before only it doesn't just light them up it also summons the illumina pokemon of that color. Get all five and it summons Xerneas who clears the roots around the central pillar allowing them to power up a shield to block the meteor.
The Xerneas dancing about stage could still be there since you wouldn't be able to repeat the meteor fall stage again
