When Stantler becomes confirmed for a game, whether it's gen 8 or not, the tireless protectors of the franchise will simply pack up and pick something else, trudging along and carrying their goalposts until the day they die.
Qwilfish was a teeny scapegoat for a little bit, but was confirmed fairly quickly, so everyone forgot.
