I was expecting a tropical paradise where I would become champion after completing the mysterious trials of the region. I would fight otherworldly creatures back into their own dimension, and I would expose the evil secrets of the obviously evil foundation. During the game, but especially the postgame, I would be free to explore the hidden nooks and crannies of each island.
Instead, I had to babysit a character whose defining trait, her refusal to battle, made her seem more useless that the preschoolers from B/W. I couldn't care less about Lillie's family issues, and Alola depended so heavily on her presence that the region felt lifeless after she left.
Even if USUM had no postgame facility that wasn't an expy of the Tower, there are still ways to improve it. Either a reworking of the story or de-emphasis on it would help. Fewer references to Kanto would be good. Alolan pokemon, both natural and forms, having an increased encounter rate is needed to make them more prominent. If GF is really willing to do it, 10-15 new Pokemon, not UBs, would be good too. Dungeons would be also nice. I just want to experience Alola, not be told about how amazing and cool Kanto is.
