The design is solid now that it has a combination of avian and human components. I think there should be a touch of black or gray in the design so the evolution is alluded too in the base stage. I was thinking a static white flame/feather hybrid at the end of a “braid cover” would add a wax, fire, feathery themed element all in one. A wrapped braid seems like the right touch of history based low fantasy. Wicks get smothered in wax all the time on purpose and by accident. The hair seems like tangrowth hairs with some bubbly hair “matted” or implied for simplicity’s sake with visible tight curls interspersed on top
