>>36341931My opinion on this is that Kanto's mystique that doesn't come from nostalgia purists is entirely thanks to how it was treated and presented in GSC. The whole Red mythos is entirely a GSC invention in particular, but the region and Kanto Pokemon are put on a pedestal in every way in GSC's treatment.
I would compare it to KOTOR 1 and KOTOR 2 and how KOTOR 2 invented the popular mythic version of Revan yet it's KOTOR 1 that is praised and revisited extensively and KOTOR 2 is ignored/maligned by the novel and MMO.
