>>43432343not necessarily. pokemon is weird in that it hyperspecializes its types. i can't think of another magic system or rpg that has more than ten elements offhand, and pokemon has almost twice that. i'm sure they exist but i don't imagine them to be common.
in a normal rpg dark might be an element and dark attacks might inflict statuses like poison (just like water element attacks might inflict freeze). Psychic and Fairy would definitely be one single type. Flying would be it's own Wind/Air element and most of the Bug moves would be moves on a case by case basis to either Air or Forest/Wood/Nature/Grass-etc if not dropped outright.
